What am I doing?

💡
I am still figuring out the scope of the project and learning to navigate uncertainty and a more open-ended design process. To see my latest hypothesis, check out this very high-level project brief.
Problem - What is your fight or problem?
Designing gender inclusive futures by:
  • Promoting healthy masculinities
  • Helping vulnerable women develop futures literacy and exploring ecofeminism
  • Enabling data transparency around salary negotiations to combat salary inequality in Latin America
  • Exploring ways to tackle problems at the root (prevention, working with younger populations on emotional regulation)

Overall I am interested in designing for care as opposed to a reactionary approach to design. How might we imagine a gender inclusive future through a preventive and care mindset?

Specific aspects of the problem - In what ways can we tackle the problem to mitigate it or solve it at the root?
Work with women to empower them (financially or through futures literacy), work with men to rethink masculinities, work with children to tackle problems at the root (emotional regulation).

Communities to engage with - What users or communities can we collaborate with to solve the problem?
Couples, children (teenagers or younger), all-men communities, women in vulnerable situations (migrant women), women in the workplace.
So far, I have engaged with 9 year old children in Badalona and migrant women living in El Raval (Mamás que leen) and women in corporations in Latin America.

Weak signals - What signals relate to your fight?
Non-heteropatriarchal innovation, tech for equality, emotional design, redesigning habits, wellness tech, economies of care, inclusivity activism, productive domestic space, decolonizing digital, data activism.

Outcome - What impact do we want to see in the world as a result of this?
Couples with better communication, fathers teaching positive masculinities to their children, empowered women, new generations with new lenses regarding gender inclusion and emotional regulation.

Success - How do we imagine success, by when and how will we measure it? (metrics)
Depends on chosen community but some metrics could be:
  • Futures literacy developed in children and women
  • Increased dialogue around gender inclusion and emotional regulation in younger generations
  • Increased number of new honest conversations in couples
  • Better distribution of income or management of income in women

Outputs & Milestones - What tangible or intangible deliverables or interventions will I ship and when?

Ongoing communications stream to keep key players and collaborators in the loop.
(i) Updated notion with all the repository (you are currently reading it!)
(ii) biweekly newsletter with over 100 subscribers
(iii) Landing site and materials for specific demos (in progress)
  • Perception board to enable futures literacy and combat echo chambers in children
(iv) Participation in events and workshops
  • Itinerant events: Fem Fabrik (March 2022)
  • In-person workshops with key users and communities: Schools in Badalona, Mamás que Leen
(v) Blog posts related to specific experiments and interventions

A series of interventions
1) Co-creating with children in public spaces and academic institutions
3) Using AI chatbot for healing from IPV or to rehearse for difficult conversations by practicing non-violent communication
4) Developing futures literacy in migrant women
5) Helping women in corporate Latin America negotiate fair salaries
